Allison Attal Essay 1- Due 8-28-07 At first glance, one might say that the young men from the movie Fandango , written and directed by Baylor alumni Kevin Reynolds, do not resemble present day Baylor students. In the age of heightened competition in the job market, Baylor University prides itself and a well-rounded student body focused on academic success and excellence, while the men in Fandango seem to have had total disregard for their academic career. However, upon further inspection, one notices several parallel qualities between Baylor students in the early 1970’s and Baylor students in 2006. College life, both in the 1970’s and in the present, was and is seen as an opportunity for students to have the freedom to be young and without inhibitions before they journey off into the real world. In Fandango , the “groovers” decide to take one last road trip to Mexico before they have to face the harsh realities of the war and the draft.
