Paul Sardiñas Origins of the Cold War Nikita Khrushchev     :    Soviet communist leader and premier of the  USSR (1958–64) (1894-1971). Marshall Plan     :    U.S. program to rebuild the nations of Western  Europe in the aftermath of World War II to render them less  susceptible to communist influence and takeover. Sphere-of-Influence Approach:      The term describe the area over  which an outside power claims authority with the intent to gain more  definite control, such as colonization; the intent to secure an  economic monopoly of a region without assuming political control. Totalitarianism:      Rule by an elite that exercises unlimited power over
