Technical Abstract Mindy McDuffie Lab 8: Triazine ELISA Laboratory Introduction Atriazine is a commonly used element in herbicides throughout the United States. Approximately ninety million pounds a year are spread throughout the United States to fight weeds in corn, sorghum, and sugar cane fields. These herbicides are common contaminants of water and other essential resources. The EPA has considered banning this herbicide; however, banning it would have drastic effects on many people and the cost would be hundreds of millions of dollars each year. The goal of this experiment is to develop a strategy for monitoring atrazine contamination in Texas. Materials and Methods In order to develop a strategy for monitoring atrazine contamination in Texas, serial dilutions of an atrazine stock solution must be made to target a specific concentration range in order to determine the limits of the test strips. After testing the serial dilutions of atrizine stock solution with the test strips, a color can be determined for each concentration. Next, analyze Texas water
