Enzymes-Protein Catalysts-Exercise 4 Review Sheet Electromagnetic radiation What is electromagnetic radiation? Travels through space in wavelengths of less than 1 nm to more than 1 km. What is wavelength ( λ )? How is this concept related to color? Distance from the crest of one wave to crest of another. White light is made of all the wavelengths in the visible spectrum. When white light is bent it separates into different wavelengths in the visible spectrum. What is amplitude? What does this have to do with light intensity? Height of a wave. Light intensity is proportional to amplitude; the greater the amplitude, the more intense the light. How are wavelength and amplitude related? What do they have to do with electromagnetic radiation? A diffraction grating allows you to select a specific wavelength. What is visible light? Visible light is that portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that can be detected by photoreceptors in the human eye. Light we see. What does it mean when we say that light is diffracted? When light moves through a substance it bends slightly. What is the difference between transmitted and reflected light? Transmitted light is when light hits an object, some of the light is absorbed by the object
