By contrasting Tom and Gatbsy,men who represent old and new money, Fitzgerald suggests that different types of wealth cannotbuy happiness.In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald uses contrasting ideas to differentiate or prove that thesecontrasting things do not make a difference in the greater scheme of things.
