PHY 114 Lab #4: DC Circuits: Electric Power Nicole Sottile Lab Partners: Yan Tran, Chyenne Ulrich Group #7 TA: Yu Yang Performed on: Tuesday February 27, 2014 Abstract : The objective of this experiment was to determine the load resistance value at which power is optimized in a DC circuit. The main formula is P= (V 0 / R 0 +R L ) 2 R L , which is the power dissipated by the load resistor. To find values of power, the formula used is P= I * V. The P L max for 100 ohms obtained was 1227.0 with P gen calculated as 0.0023. The P L max for 200 ohms obtained was 1086.00 with P gen 6.116 e-4. The V ex was 9.833 and R ex with the percent error being 1.67% and 1.4% respectively at 100 R 0 . Possible error that could have occurred can be caused by improper set up of the apparatus or collecting data incorrectly. Objective :
In this experiment, students will be able to understand and determine the load resistance (R L ) value at which power is optimized in a DC circuit.
