CHANGES ARE COMING Latin America Most leadership has been moving to the socialist side; taking over resources (oil) to distribute wealth to education Most people own nothing, a little own a lot Presdient of Venezuela Hugo Chavez - EXTREME LEFTEST; self declared Sologist; leader of Bolivarian revolution; too many poor people so he’s going to take over and run them (borderline Communist); US hates this (US is about capitalism/private ownership; US hates him too [TROIS AMIGOS] Fidel Castro/ Raul Castro , President of Cuba : thinks they are still Communist; when Fidel dies, Raul is probably going to open up the economy a bit more [TROIS AMIGOS] Evo Morales, President of Bolivia : EXTREME LEFTEST; part of Bolivarian Revolution; nationalizing industries in Bolivia ; friends with Hugo Chavez [TROIS AMIGOS] Cristina Kirchner , President of Argentina : almost developed & rich, friends of Castro/left Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil ** (important)**: center left; Brazil is biggest country/economy/pride in Latin America; regional power of note; almost becoming a second tiered world power; huge affect on other countries; model to be followed; social
