Week 2 - Assignment 2Strategy Card Game Design, GRATIS and Single Player PlaytestingINSTRUCTIONS ONLYBEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR WORK, DELETE THIS BOXSingle Player Playtest #1Assignment InstructionsIntroduction to the Single Player Playtest:This is near the start of your strategy card game assignment. Here you will be experimenting with differentdesigns, solidifying an early set of rules, rapidly prototyping the elements of your card game, and testing thegameBY YOURSELFto look for loopholes, meaningful choices, dominant strategies, and conflicts withinyour design. You will quickly learn if your game design is playable or not in this stage of testing. The goal ofearly, single player playtests is to get the game in a tested, more polished state before bringing in groups ofother people to play. Here you can fix the low-hanging-fruit issues that are easy to spot before it wouldinterrupt a group of players. In this assignment, you will:1.Create an Initial Design and Set of Rules for your game by filling out the GRATIS section above.2.Identify the Meaningful Choices in your game3.Conduct a playtest of your strategy gameBY YOURSELF4.Take a Photo of the Game in Progress5.Document your playtest findings by answering the Corresponding QuestionnaireMeaningful Choices:Have you ever played a game and felt that instead of you playing the game, the game was playing you? Thisis actually quite common, but many players have trouble narrowing down the root cause of their frustration. They just say the game is “boring,” which is not really much help to a designer who is looking for feedbackand analysis. What players are really saying is that the game just doesn’t have anything interesting to do.Often in these situations, a boring game lacks Meaningful Choices. The options available to the player areleft completely up to chance. Make sure that your game contains Meaningful Choices for your players! What We Want to See:Be creative! Try to come up with an idea that is new and different and is exciting to work on! Take notehowever, these ruleswill changeand be iterated upon throughout multiple playtests, so do not get tooattached to them. Ideas that you have originally on paper may not work in practice and will require multipleupdates and tweaks to work properly.Avoid Common Mistakes:Please look at theCommon Game DesignIssues ILAon Full Sail Online. We have compiled a list of some of the common issues we see in StrategyCard Game Designs and ways to fix them. It is best to identify these issues early in the design process.
