Anthro Readings 03:02 Reading 1- Shamanism Shamanism is greatly misunderstood as weird paganism or some kind of new age, self  help religion. Emphasis of shamanism has been as them as healers and connectors of the spiritual  worlds and normal world. People use shamanism as a way to meet their own self realizing needs, rather than  understanding shamans on their own cultural terms. The idea of someone who practices shamanism for their own self realizing needs is a  totally self made man, rugged individualist Because of this picture that people think Shamans are, they become a commodity for  consumer culture. Shamanism is a community centered activity. Definition of shamanism- a shaman is a ritualist who is able to divine, predict and effect  future outcomes, provide medical care, and communicate with the supernatural world  through spirits, including their ancestors.
