Page 1 of 3 Quiz Section:  AD Total Points = 60 Standard Potentials vs. Silver  Cell Numbers Potential, V Potential, V Experimental Literature (page 58) vs. Silver vs. Silver (Black Lead on Ag/AgCl) (reverse leads) Values Values 1 (Ag) - Reference 0.56 -0.56 0.77 0.80 12 pts 2 (Zn) - Reference -0.6 0.6 -0.39 -0.76 (1 pt each cell in 3 (Pb) - Reference -0.37 0.37 -0.16 -0.13 columns C,D,E) 4 (Cu) - Reference 0.15 -0.15 0.36 0.34 E corrected E o EXPERIMENT 5 Electrochemistry Part I:  Standard Potentials Purpose and Method                     The first goal is to measure the standard reduction potentials of Ag/Ag+, Pb/Pb2+, Cu/Cu2+ and Zn/Zn2+.  How is this accomplished? ( 6 pts ) We measured the standard reduction potentials of each half cell above by combining them in an electochemical cell with a standard Ag-AgCl  reference electrode and measuring the voltage created by the full cell using a Fluke Multimeter. Because the standard reduction potential value of the  Ag-AgCl electrode is known to be 0.21V, we are able to calculate the value of each half cell potential above.  When we combine two half cell  reactions in an Ecell, one of the ions will be reduced while the other is oxidized. Which one is which is determined by knowing that the full cell  reaction will always have the highest positive total potential value. So, if we know that Ag-AgCl has a positive reduction value of 0.21V, we can take  the total V for each full cell reaction and add 0.21V to each. The second goal is to construct a cell with Ecell = 0.50V.  How is this accomplished? (
