OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF NUTRITION AND EXERCISE SCIENCES PAC 166 BALLROOM 2 STEP/HUSTLE SPRING 2008 Barbara Platt – Instructor Office Hours: Monday, 9:10-9:50am Office: Langton 121F or by appointment, and during e-mail: Barbara.platt@oregonstate.edu Fri. practice sessions in WB116 – times TBA mailboxes: COURSE DESCRIPTION Ballroom Two Step , also called Night Club Two Step, is a smooth, romantic dance created by Buddy Schwimmer in the 1960’s. Style is similar to ballroom but is classified as club-style, danced to contemporary ballad-like music. Hustle is a fast-paced, swing-related dance style to a disco beat. Class encompasses beginning and intermediate step patterns, technique and styling, stationary and traveling patterns. Course meets for two 50 minute sessions each week for one credit (1). Format includes group and individual instruction and practice, changing partners throughout the class. Prerequisite is PAC 160, Ballroom II . This is an enforced prerequisite. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to Demonstrate mastery of the basic footwork, techniques and styling of BR2S and Hustle. See Course Content Demonstrate skills in leading and/or following a partner. Demonstrate a commitment to regular practice through regular attendance and participation in class as well as practice outside of class. Demonstrate a supportive classroom environment in which to learn, to practice, and to develop dancing skills. COURSE CONTENT : Class content is presented as a sequence of moves and skills that continually expand the student’s competency. Review class procedures and policies.
