The research we conducted attempted to uncover PLU students’ opinions on their school’s nightlife. We had been hearing from students around campus that PLU had changed from a place that used to be exciting on the weekends to a school with little to no nightlife. This prompted us to create a hypothesis that PLU nightlife had declined. We then set out to develop a research question. Our research objective was to assess students’ perception of PLU’s nightlife. The method we used for conducting this research was creating a survey using Survey Monkey listing ten questions that best assessed the student’s attitudes toward nightlife. We then sent this survey out via Facebook to any current PLU students that we had as friends. We had one hundred-twenty survey responses. The results from our survey supported our hypothesis that PLU’s nightlife has declined for students. The results from a few of the questions we asked stood out. We asked students how their perception of nightlife at PLU has changed since coming to school and a resounding number said it has gotten worse. In fact, 69.7% of the students who responded to our survey said nightlife has gotten “much worse”. This statistic gets at the crux of what we were trying to discover about PLU’s issues with its nightlife. Students clearly think the excitement there has taken a turn for the worse. The overall results from our survey strongly supported our hypothesis that PLU’s nightlife has declined. Most of the respondents’ answers showed a certain level of unhappiness with PLU’s current nightlife scene. A few questions we hoped would give us the most information did that and more in convincing fashion. As a result, we recommend that PLU do something to change its policy that currently hinders social gathering and possibly create more opportunities for students to gather in a responsible way. 3

We wanted to ask questions to PLU students that would tap into their feelings about how much they were getting out of PLU’s social atmosphere on weekends. We came to this idea because we noticed a certain drop-off in the attitudes of PLU students with regard to nightlife this past year. It seemed that almost all upperclassmen were complaining about PLU not
