“The Gift of the Magi” is a very touching story written by O’Henry. This story is told during the Christmas season and teaches the true meaning of gift giving, written in third-person objective point of view. This stories illustration is about a married couple that makes lavish decisions of sacrificial love to provide Christmas gifts for each other. Della is the main character in the story and shows the love she has most from actions of the heart in the story.More than one them may be discovered in the story. The theme of this story is all about love and sacrifice. The couple displays the measure of true love and sacrifice. The reader learns that love is the greatest gift of all. The author shows the reader how even though the couple was poor; theyboth gave their most important possession to make their spouse happy. Symbolism, Allusion and Situational irony can be found in this story. There's not a whole lot of imagery or metaphor in this story. That makes the few Bible allusions stand out all the more.
