Rishil Patel English workshop III 4/30/07 The benefits of being bilingual Every child, wherever it grows up: from India to Mexico, from Mexico to the United States, acquires its native language. We, as human beings, are incredibly wired to our native language. Thus, when we travel to different places, we carry our native language and learn the country’s language that makes our journey smooth. Not only that, but learning more than one language is helpful to us anytime, anywhere. Therefore, there are many benefits of being bilingual. First, one of the benefits of being bilingual is that a bilingual person has the ability to be perceptive and creative. Such as, bilingual children have two or more words for each object and idea, and different meanings that are sometimes attached to words by the two languages. This means that a bilingual person can build up the ability to think more flexibly not only about words, but also about everything. Moreover, a bilingual person has to know which language to speak with whom, and
