Additional Question A composite wall of a house is constructed of plywood, fiberglass insulation, and plaster board, as indicated in the sketch below. The plaster board is on the inside of the house and the plywood is on the outside of the house. On a cold winter day the convection heat transfer coefficients are 60 = o h W/m 2 ·K and 30 = i h W/m 2 ·K, respectively for the outside and inside. The total wall surface area is 350 m 2 . The values of thermal conductivity of the components of the wall are = p κ 0.17 W/m·K, = b 0.038 W/m·K, and = s 0.094 W/m·K, respectively for the plaster board, fiberglass and the plywood siding. Derive an algebraic expression for the total thermal resistance of the wall, including the inside and outside convection effects for the prescribed conditions.
