Running head: UNIT 3 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT2AbstractToday’s society can be very troublesome for the younger generation as the rise in crimes, ganglife, and death continue to drastically change. Nearly today in America alone there are 60,000youths that are currently incarcerated (ACLU, 2021). While incarcerated these youths are notexposed to the same life, they have grown accustomed too. They are stripped from the life theyknow, taken from their families and sent to a place for a structured form of rehabilitation. Withthe use of incarceration, we have to question if this benefiting these youths are causing moredamage to their mental health? My job at this facility is to take on my case load which entailsthat of individual sessions with these youths as well as group sessions. My plan of action is toincorporate interpersonal psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy into all sessions for atreatment plan.2

Those who find themselves in long-term stays in these facilities face the dangers of thepsychological trauma caused by the isolation, abuse, etc. many facilities fail to provide these kidswith the care they need to rehabilitate to prevent recidivism. The lack of proper educations,mental health, and healthcare has been seen to be damaging to the progression that these kids canmake. The use of lockdowns within the criminal justice system is harmful to not just youth butanyone who faces this form of punishment. Youths stuck in these situations face a trauma fromabuse, sexual abuse, lack of healthy development, and being stripped from their lives. Studieshave proven that these methods are not working with our youth (Jlc, 2021).The use of mental health treatment can prevent these youths from ending up incarceratedor even prevent recidivism.
