Unformatted text preview: Name: Crystal Clark Course: UNV-103 Date: 7/18/21 Instructor: Corey Smith Topic 4 Purpose Plan: Academic Life, Spiritual Life, and Career Directions: For this assignment, you will answer a series of questions designed to help you find and plan your purpose. These questions are broken into an Academic Plan, a Spiritual Plan, and a Career Plan. Please respond to each of the questions directly on this document (the boxes will expand as needed) and then answer the two reflection questions at the end of the document. Academic Plan To help you get the most out of your GCU experience, GCU offers support, services, and resources that enhance your academic pursuits. Find your major and program on the following website and complete the table below: In which program of study are you enrolled, or plan to enroll? Bachelor of Science in Applied Marketing and Advertising What are some of the program core courses you are looking forward to taking and why? I’m really looking forward to taking Digital Marketing and Advertising. I feel like the one area of my business that is lacking is the digital advertising. I am almost looking forward to Christian worldview. I work in a Lutheran school and I’m trying to further my career in the school and know this class will help with that. Which courses do you anticipate being the most challenging? Explain why. Financial Decision making is a class that I think will be the most challenging. I personally haven’t had the best history with finance in business so while I know it will be a great class for me to take, it will also be a struggle. Spiritual Plan GCU is committed to integrating faith across all aspects of the GCU community. This stems from GCU’s mission to educate students from a Christian perspective and to prepare them for careers that honor God while serving others. Read about GCU’s “One Foundation” and watch all three videos, “One Foundation: Integration of Faith, Learning, and Work,” “Ethical Positions Statement,” and “Doctrinal Statement Introduction” located at . After clicking on the link, scroll down to the One Foundation section to read, and then click on the video in that section. You will need to click on the drop down within the first video window to access all 3 videos. What did you takeaway from these videos? How can you apply this to your experience while at GCU? (50-100 words) I really liked hearing about the growth of the mission at GCU. There has always been a religious foundation at the school, but while things change in the world, things need to adapt at the school. I love that they integrate the love of God into every program. I would think that it would only be involved in the programs that relate to religion like being a pastor, or a youth counselor, but to hear that all programs that God is usually not even a thought such as science has a Christian foundation makes me love the school more. What does service outside of the classroom mean to you? How can you apply service while at GCU? (50-100 words) I do a lot of service already. I am in my mid 30’s though so I have had a lot more of a chance to do it than someone straight out of college. Service outside of the classroom is helping the community. Feeding the homeless downtown, helping inner city schools, and offering my time at my church are all ways that myself, and my family, serve in the name of God. Career Plan Grand Canyon University offers several career service tools to help you discover potential career paths, build a resume, search for employment, and more. Take a few minutes to take the Career Compass survey located at (Access Code: Purpose). You can watch the video below to assist you with the registration process: ? list=PLnvvHOt5LvE8yBMYeHV4mGPW88Q86ftmw. Even if you have completed an assessment such as this in the past, it is good to reassess yourself every so often to reevaluate your goals, focus, and direction based on your growth. After you complete the survey, fill in the following table. Research the details 1. High School Administrator which is someone enforces the rules at a school, can of your Career work with parents and teachers. Evaluates things going on in the school, and able to Compass results, and make changes necessary. then list and describe 2. Public Relations Specialist is someone who determines that the goals, management at least three job philosophy, and the roles of an organization are. They help business portray descriptions. themselves correctly based on their characteristics. They manage writers and artists to help create marketing plans and communicate the organization’s themes. Based on your results, what surprises did you find? If there are none, explain why. 3. Recreation and Fitness Studies Professor is someone who teaches courses pertaining to recreation, leisure, and fitness studies. I thought that the Public relations Specialist position was surprising. I have always had interest in that line of work but never thought of myself as someone who could do that. I am not an outgoing person; I am more of an introvert, and I thought that a person in public relations had to be an extrovert. Based off my personality traits though that is one field that fit well. I was also surprised that there were so many (100-150 words) After completing your current program/degree, what is your plan? (grad school, internship, career plan, etc.) different professions in the medical field listed. I have never been one to think I was smart enough to go into the medical field, but my personality traits and values both indicated those would be good fields to go into. I plan to do what I’m currently doing now; I am just hopeful that I will be able to move up to a higher paying and more responsible role. The only thing that has been holding me back at my current job is not having a bachelor’s degree. I currently work with social media and alumni relations and would like to continue in the same department at the school I am at, but I would like to move into a director of Marketing position. Reflection Reflection Question 1: In 100 - 125 words, please respond to the following prompt: In order to achieve the goals in your purpose plan, you will need to employ self- management and selfleadership strategies. What self- management and self-leadership strategies do you plan on using, and how will you use them? Hint: You may want to review some of the weekly readings for insights. The following readings in particular may be helpful: Goal-Setting and Action Planning (Topic 4), Juggling Act (Topic 1), The Power of Accountability (Topic 1). Self-leadership and self-management are two important things that will not only help me in my business life, but also in my personal life. Strategies that I plan on implementing into my life are working on one task at a time, creating a better organizational system digitally, goal-setting, and reprioritizing my schedule. I have a problem with taking on too many things at one time, which causes me to get overwhelmed and then I don’t fully finish everything. By reprioritizing my schedule and focusing on doing one thing at a time, this will help me stay focused on the task at hand. I also need to create a better organizational system that is fully digital. Reflection Question 2: In 100 - 125 words, please respond to the following prompt: GCU provides many opportunities and resources to help you accomplish the goals in your purpose plan. What are some GCU opportunities and/or resources you will engage in to help you accomplish your goals? Career services at the Academic and Career Excellence Center of GCU provides resources for all students that I think will really help me accomplish my academic and future business goals. They have resources, ways to get technical experience, and they guide students transition from the academic part to a rewarding career. Another resource available that will help me is the tutoring and career resources department. Being an online student, I feel like that is really going to help me since I’m not able to go in person and meet with a counselor. If I can take part in all those opportunities I will absolutely succeed in my future goals. ...
