1 Saint Augustine on Woman I was very surprised to read that Saint Augustine said “woman is a creature neither decisive nor constant.” I would have assumed that Augustine would have taken the time to really consider and even philosophize on the subject of women as he spent so much of his time considering seemingly everything else. Perhaps disregarding and not considering women’s capabilities was a “tradition” that he did not feel needed to be questioned, but that does not make sense to me after reading his Confessions and realizing the huge scope in which he analyzed topics. In fact, I recall that the only mention of women in his Confessions was when he spoke of his sexual desires that he seemed to have a difficult time controlling when he was younger. But I am still confused about his disregard for women as they play a gigantic role in the Catholic Church: they teach children about the faith; nuns do an enormous amount of philanthropic work; many women organize youth groups and serve as caretakers; women can be lectors and Eucharistic ministers.
