Response: According to Samaha (2011), eyewitness misidentification of can carry grave consequences and seventy percent of wrongful conviction is a result of misidentification. Samaha discussed three separate memory phases: Acquisition of memory; this accounts the initial memory recall of information know as the perception of an event . Next there is Retention of memory; this process of storing information during the period of time between an event and the “eventual recollection of a specific bit of information” and there is Retrieval of memory; this is the time when a person recalls the stored information about a particular event for the purpose of identifying a person in an event (p. 13).2. Response:The risk of Photo identifications is high and unreliable because the photos shown to eyewitnesses does not accurately reflect the scene of the crime; additionally, the eyewitness is often under stress to select a suspect and this too contributes for the high volume of error in photo identification. 3.
