York College/CUNY Introduction to Biology 2 Laboratory Description of Project Lab Experiment: Investigating Mendelian Genetics with Wisconsin Fast Plants The project lab for the semester combines Mendelian genetics with plant physiology. During the semester we will plant seeds, observe the phenotypes of the P1, P2 and F1 plants, grow the plants under fluorescent lights to flowering, perform the self-cross (F1 X F1), continue growing the plants until the seeds and pods are mature and the plants die, harvest and plant the progeny seed (F2) from the self-cross, observe their phenotypes, and perform a statistical analysis to determine how well the ratios of progeny seedlings conform to the prediction for a Mendelian dihybrid cross.
