Thesis Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters in Susan Glaspell’s play “Trifles” found many clues and reasons to believe that Mrs. Wright did kill her husband, like bad cleaning, a broken bird cage, and bad stitching. Plan Bad Cleaning Table Something interrupted her that caused her to leave the table half cleaned and not to get to finish. Towel The dirty towel also shoes that something happened that distracted her from cleaning the towel. Mrs. Hale tries to cover up for her by saying that there’s a lot to do on a farm. Broken Bird Cage Dialogue Mrs. Peters says “looks as if someone must have been rough with it.” Obviously someone had to been upset or in a hurry to break the hinge off the door of the cage instead of opening it. Bird The ladies found the bird in the box. Bird’s neck had been wrung, and Mrs. Peters

Unformatted text preview: later on says “slipping a rope around his neck that choked the life out of him.” Mrs. Hale repeats her and they realize that Mrs. Wright was getting her revenge on her husband by slipping a rope around his neck killing him just the way he had killed her bird. Bad Stitching Mrs. Hale Says the rest of her sewing has been nice and even, and that she didn’t know what she was about. Meaning, that she was not in her right mind that something had happened to cause her to start sewing bad. She also says nervously that bad sewing makes her fidgety, so here Mrs. Hale realizes again another trifle that proves that she could of killed her husband so she tries fixing it to protect Mrs. Wright because she knows Mrs. Wright isn’t a bad person....
