Cortney Capoverde ENC 1102 Due: February 18, 2008 A Rose For Emily Emily Grierson is a poor, crazy old woman who does whatever she wants. Emily Grierson doesn’t pay her taxes, she doesn’t talk to anyone in town, and she kills her boyfriend and gets away with it. Everybody in town think Emily is weird, and doesn’t know what to do. Emily Grierson does not ever pay her taxes. Colonel Sartoris remitted them in 1894 after her father died, as a way of repaying him for everything he gave to the town (Faulkner 468). At he beginning of the year, the mayor mailed her a tax notice to which she didn’t respond (Faulkner 468). They tried several other times to contact her, they wrote her a formal letter, and even the mayor himself wrote to her, asking to call or he could send a car. She only wrote back saying that she no longer went out at all (Faulkner 468). After this, they went to her house to collect what they needed. Miss Emily came out saying that she has no taxes in Jefferson. They tried to argue with her, but she kept
