Welcome to PAD 530, Public Personnel Management. I thoroughly enjoy the online experience, the flexibility of time it gives to both student and instructor, the opportunity to share life experiences, and the privilege to meet new people who have life long learning goals. I have experienced traditional and online formal education from the student’s seat and from the instructor’s podium - all while working full time, running a family, juggling career changes, and re-locating between states. I certainly understand the learning challenges, the competing schedules, and the rewards that lie ahead for all who complete their education goals. My goal for the next 11 weeks is to instruct, guide, and encourage you to learn Public Administration (PA) concepts, principles, and shared experiences with measurable results. Now is the time to Click on the “Student Center” and print the PAD 530 Student Guide. This document will keep you up to date with weekly readings, due dates for assignments, grading criteria, and specific writing assessments. Discussion Questions Requirements: Weekly discussion topics are listed in the Week 1- 11 tabs located on the left hand side of the class screen. Weekly Discussions Questions ( DQs ) follow a 4 phase cycle in which you 1) write about the assigned topic; 2) comment on what other students have written about that topic; 3) read the comments others have made on your posting; and 4) respond stating what you have gained from their insights/commentary. Respect the weekly DEADLINES. The combined initial Discussion Questions (DQ) and or Case Study responses must be at least 100 words in length and the 1 student response must each be at least 50 words long.
