2Adolescent Psychology: The Concept of DepressionIntroductionDepression, particularly amongst adolescents, has been a trending topic in the currentworld. Factually, depression cases amongst adolescents have been on the rise across the world.Earlier, the medical society thought adults-only experienced depression; however, this is not thecase since depression can start in childhood, early adulthood, to even adulthood.This is evidentsince approximately eleven percent of children have shown depressive episodes before reachingteenage.These findings leave researchers wondering whether depression in adults, children, oradolescent is a phase of a condition with a causative factor. Therefore, the purpose of theresearch proposal is to discuss adverse childhood exposures that are closely associated withdepression, sleep problems, and anxiety. Although various research studies have a strongconnection between childhood experiences to anxiety or depression, it is not clear thatadolescents’ adverse experiences contribute to sleep problems.Thus, the proposal will focus onexamining whether anxiety or depression relates to adverse adolescent experiences.Statement of PurposeThis research proposal focuses on examining whether anxiety or depression have a relationshipwith adverse adolescent experiences.Proposed HypothesesAdverse adolescent experiences result in depression or anxietyA stressful or an adverse experience must trigger depression or anxiety amongst adolescents.Literature ReviewMany research studies have shown a connection between adverse adolescent effects anddepression or anxiety. For example, Malinauskiene & Malinauskas (2021) state that depressive
3predictor symptoms include adverse family and schooling experiences, low self-esteem,coherence sense, family violence, stress, and psychosomatic health-associated complaints,alcohol, and smoking abuse are some of the characteristics such youths have.This is a clearindication of a high relationship between adverse adolescent experiences and depression oranxiety.Besides, different authors such as Wen et al.
