C OMMUNICATIONS 125 A PRIL 2 L ECTURE Advertisers seek the right audience- find the things that attract these audiences Seek niche audience and find programming that appeals to said audience For example young men Violence Sex Sports Advertisers want audiences with more disposable income Therefore will focus on wealthier audience more so than poorer audience According to market model will tailor their programming to cater to wealthier audience Content will cater to and reflect the audience that is watching it- middle class and upper class Even though most murder victims are black and poor but the media presents the image of a middle class white victim to cater to that audience Media depicts poor people in racialized terms and stereotypes because the media is reflecting the audience and their predispositions Poor get what they deserve and the rich deserve the wealth that they have Media Effects
