Health: complete physical, mental, and social well being with the absence of disease Growth: physiological increase in size through cell multiplication or differentiation/is quantitative and can be measured (continue to grow in various ways throughout life) Development: physiological, psychosocial, and cognitive (height/weight) changes that occur over one’s life span Types of prevention: Primary: health promotion and prevention (flu shots, counseling) Secondary: early diagnosis, treatment, disability limitations (screening, cure process, prevent further complications/mammograms) Tertiary: rehabilitation and restoration (rehab, therapy, disability is irreversible/physical therapy after a vehicle accident) Roles of a nurse: Educator: nurses at schools/home visit discussing the dangers of smoking to client Care Manager: cares for patients/not cures Consultant: expertise giving help to other nurses to provide help to patient Advocate: speak up for a patient
