Behavioural Based Safety Programs
You are the Health & Safety Manager for a large construction company employing 2,000 employees
at a number of construction sites & business locations around Ireland.
You oversaw development & implementation a Safety Management System alongside management
& staff safety training programs 3 years ago. Following implementation of the above measures the
lost time injury rates within the company decreased significantly, but they have now reached a
plateau despite repeated attempts (i.e. poster campaigns, toolbox talks, etc) to try & reduce injury
rates further.
The Managing Director of the company has shared their concern about the injury rate plateau &
has asked you to investigate & submit a business safety strategy proposal for further accident
prevention measures. Having researched it & given it some consideration you now believe
implementation of a Behavioural Based Safety (BBS) Program would help to further reduce injury
rates.
