NOTE: this is not the same length as the “real” exam; the questions are here to provide examples of the kinds of questions you’ll see on the midterm. You may keep a single sheet (text on both sides is OK) of 8 . 5 × 11 paper with notes on your desk. The page of notes must have your name on it, must identify anyone who worked on the sheet with you (it’s OK to study together), may not use a font smaller than about 9 point Times font, and must be turned in with your exam . You may also use a calculator without alphanumeric memory; this calculator must be a standalone device, not a cell phone or iPod app. Of course, you need not turn in the calculator. There are two sections of the exam: multiple-choice and short answers. On the multiple choice questions, you either get the question right or you don’t. On the short answer questions, partial credit may be given for partially correct answers, and you must show your work. You may use the back of the exam sheets if you need extra space. Please do the following things before starting (NOW!): Write your name and ITS account legibly on the top of each page. Omitting your name & ITS account from a page will result in the loss of 5 points for each page without this information. Read over the entire exam and do the easy questions first.
