6 Infectious Diseases Infectious disease: any change from a state of health in which part or all of the host’s body is incapable of carrying on its normal function due to the presence of a parasite (pathogen) or its products. Examples of some infectious diseases? Examples of their causative agents?

7 Infectious Diseases Pathogens can include bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, worms, algae Pathogens are parasitic agents that can survive and/or reproduce in the host’s body Pathogenicity: the ability of these organisms to cause disease Virulence: the degree or intensity of pathogenicity Infectious: capable of invading a host and producing illness Communicable: capable of spreading to others
