Appropriateness of Behavior and its Five Elements Explain “appropriateness of behavior” and the five elements that make it up. The appropriateness of behavior is not the same for every situation. Appropriateness depends on the context of each situation to correctly evaluate it. There are five elements that we can use to help determine whether a certain behavior is appropriate or not. First is time. The time at which loud behavior may be inappropriate could be late at night when people are trying to sleep. The same loud behavior during the day would be acceptable; it is the time of night that makes this behavior inappropriate. The second is place. The location of your behavior determines its appropriateness. Drinking in a bar with adults and being drunk is acceptable by society, but being drunk at a school or around small children is not. Also, the previous behavior of the offender is important to consider. Some behavior while not immediately inappropriate can be deemed as inappropriate if you have a history of such behavior. Drinking at home is not illegal

Further, it is important to consider the behavior related to the condition of the victim or observer relative to the perpetrator. An example is two college guys rough housing. Both guys are similar in build and size. This is okay. Now if one of those same college students was rough housing with a small child, this would no longer be appropriate. The lack of ability of the small child to defend themselves changes the appropriateness of the situation. Finally, numbers affect appropriate behavior. As previously stated, two guys fighting may be acceptable. Now if it were five guys versus one of those guys, this would no longer be acceptable. All of these elements play a role in determining the appropriateness of behavior, depending on the context of the situation....
