10-31-13 – VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS “What do you see when you see a blind person?” - Handicap = Hand and Cap; begging - People view and perceived blind as completely helpless - People view blind people as incapable of having job - People view blind people as also lacking the ability to hear as well o Speaking louder is for anyone who has physical and cognitive disabilities o There is nothing logical about speaking louder, it is just a human reaction to it - Sighted Guide – being slightly ahead, letting the blind person holding onto their arm, and allowing for them to feel your arm - Sighted Guide – having a female ahead of the male; it is not necessary acceptable for in other countries - Assume an inability because someone who has an obvious disability ACCOMODATIONS - Other ways they can develop the same skills - ETIQUETTE People can see some sort of vision - Shadows - Shapes
