11/18/2014 Race as Process Functionalism - Issues exist with the introduction of new races or ethnicities into a society. This is especially the case if one of those new groups don’t share a lot in common with those already present in that society - this perspective suggests that the issue of racism is alleviated through the process of assimilation Assimilation - when a person/group takes on the characteristics of the dominant groups mainstream culture. This is accomplished by adopting the dominant culture’s: - language - religion - habits - mannerisms - cultural goals overall in a group level, they have higher rates of inter-marriage loving v. virginia - interracial couple in 1966 prohibited states from having laws preventing interracial marriages ------- Race as Stratification Much of racial and ethnic conflict is class-based - Because it is difficult to disentangle issues of race and class, class inequality must be reduced in order to reduce racial and ethnic conflict Exploitation theory

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
