Worst Cases Friday, April 20, 2012 10:57 AM Big earthquakes - we live in a rich, educated society where we can build More ppl die in American hospitals from medical accidents than from something car crashes are industrial accidents Example : Jet blue incident o When they put the wheels down for landing, they were cocked sideways (tire was perpendicular to the ground) o Lots of media coverage - whole country was watching, just like the O.J. Simpson chase o Wheels ignited when it hit the ground, but the flame eventually went out/landed successfully Probabilistic Thinking o "When asked in the abstract about the term "risk," Americans correctly end to talk in terms of statistical probability, about the chances that something bad will happen. Yet when they are faced with specific threats, emotions overrules logic pretty quickly -- we fear the unlikely and are relatively unconcerned about the truly dangerous" -David Ropeik, Harvard Center for Risk Analysis Common way to define what is sensible/rational behavior - we ought to be thinking about things that are most likely to do us damage. o Yet we worry about the things that are low risk, like airplane crash and ignore more dangerous things like obesity, lack of exercise, cancer, smoking, etc.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
