Erin McClure Diplomat: What We Should Do about Burma George Wehrfritz/Newsweek Online Online Article/Para.1-11 My first primary source is an online article written on 9/26/07 by George Wehrfritz, a journalist for Newsweek Online. The text, “Diplomat: What We Should Do about Burma,” discusses the current protest of the violent totalitarian government which has long controlled Burma. In the country that Burmese junta officials call Myanmar, the protest is being led by monks who do not agree with the way civilians have been treated in the recent oil protests. Recently, thousands of civilians were protesting high gas prices and were treated inhumanely by the government, and now have taken to the streets to protest despite the military’s forceful presence. Tear gas and firing into the crowd are two methods used by the violent junta, who were ordered to kill 3,000 people in the 1988 protests of the very same government.
