Another Step Backwards Here we are. Year 2007. Yet, has anything changed? For years, hundreds and thousands of people have been tortured for their beliefs and for the pride in their country. For hundreds of thousands of years prisoners have been demoralized for what they believed. America has continued this atrocity by allowing events at Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib to happen and it has ruined our reputation throughout the world. History tells us that hundreds of years ago, Christians burned at the stake, ripped apart, attacked by dogs, and fed to lions for the belief in Christ. Then, everything supposedly changed. Christians came to America, founded a country for the express purpose of oppression-free worship. Over the years, we became a City upon a Hill, the Shining Beacon of Hope to millions throughout the world. We joined the United Nations, we saw as anti-torture, treaties swept through nations and ratified—and we even complained when the UN picked Sudan over the U.S. for the Human Rights Committee.
