Jasmin Sangha November 15, 2007 Biology 482: Dr Cohen Review Paper The two articles I decide to use are “Glucagon Activates Calcium and Chlorine Channels in Rat Hepatocytes” and “Characterization of Voltage-Dependent Sodium and Calcium Channels in Mouse Pancreatic Alpha and Beta Cells”. The overall theme they share is how glucagon affects the calcium channels. In the stud y of voltage-dependent sodium and calcium channels, the study is testing how high voltage a (HVA) calcium channels and sodium channels are distributed differently in A- and B- cells of the mouse pancreatic islets. In the study of activation of calcium and chlorine channels, they are testing the effects of glucagon on membrane conductance of rat liver cells. In the study of rat hepatocytes, they used electrophysiology to study the electrical properties of the rat hepatocytes. It involves measurements of electrical current flow on the ion channels.
