Marketing Theory Assignment Preview of JVC and SONY Headphones within the Context of Packaging In this paper, I will try to evaluate packages of products of the same range, same kind, have same function and which can be assumed as substitutes of each other in the context of VIEW MODEL. To decide the products as a basis to my research I went to FRY’s, an electronic mall near my house. Actually that was not my intention to view an electronic device but after strolling around different kind of grocery shops, supermarkets and apparel stores I felt desperate and decided to run into an electronic device. Because packaging is a prominent issue in the electronic devices and the producers spend money on this. After entering Fry’s Woodland Hills which reminds me the movie ‘Scissor Hands` and seems a video game arcade more than an electronic store with all that large tiles in black and white, I began to ramble around the shelves. I was thinking to find a small and cheap device which can be categorized in ‘convenience goods’ and in which the packaging is more important. I looked at flash memories, pencils, empty DVDs, CDs even HDMI cables. But all seem the same as if made by the same packaging producer and then I decided to analyze headphones which are not very expensive and will somehow satisfy my criteria. I also wanted the brands which I will evaluate to be at the same perception level of the consumers, at close price and relatively cheap. Because if you are to buy a ‘high end’ headphone of around 500 USD or more, you do not take the package into account very much. You read many consumer comments, forums and decide to buy one specific model of definite brand. And of course you must not have much money to throw down the drain. Because of all these justifications I decided to preview headphones from JVC and Sony which can be regarded as at the same range and are at the same price, precisely 79.99 USD each.
