S1, S2, and S3: Checkpoint 3 (TAMS)
OVERVIEW
For standards S1 and S2 for this mastery check, you will be reading and analyzing an article in
Science News and one of the studies that it reports on. These documents have been condensed
and can be found in the document Articles for S1 and S2.docx.
For standard S3 for this mastery check, you will be reading parts of a scientific article from the
New England Journal of Medicine on COVID-19. You will be asked to read the Abstract, watch
the Quick Take video, and use the research summary and detailed information about the
participant composition to answer the S3 questions. The research summary condenses the
relevant information into a single document that is accessible to more general audiences, giving
the highlights without all the technical details.
LOGISTICS – What to do and how to submit
Each of the standards will be evaluated separately. Below are the questions related to each
standard. Your assignment should be a written report that answers the questions related to the
standards you have not YET gotten mastered. You will provide your answers by using the answer
template.
You should check if you have mastered any of these three standards by looking at the “Learning
Mastery” tab in your gradebook. Please check with your instructor if you are unsure about your
mastery status. Only turn in those standards on which you still need to get mastery . Make
sure to check which standards you are including.
