Confidentiality is extremely important especially in a healthcare setting. If a patient’s
trust is lost not only do we as professionals face legal action but our reputation is a stake as well.
Confidentiality should be treated with respect and it’s demanded of us as a medical professional
simply because without it we don’t have the trust and respect of our patients.
Under HIPAA, are you legally allowed to view this patient’s medical information? Why or
why not?
I would not be able to legally view the file because I am not a doctor. The doctor is the
only person legally allowed to view a patient’s medical file. So it’s best to actually involve the
doctor at all cost if the patient has already left that way proper treatment is given to the patient.
