Kafka Review Sheet The Metamorphosis Gregor Samsa Mr. Samsa Mrs. Samsa Grete Samsa The Chief Clerk The Three Lodgers The Cleaning Lady - When Gregor wakes up, it is raining outside - he can't get out of bed because his shell won't let him turn over - Gregor is a commercial salesman and has had his job for 5 years . - he has to catch the 6:30 train - there are 3 doors into Gregor's room - Gregor's mother is the first to knock on his door to wake him up - The chief clerk thinks that Gregor has stolen money from the firm and is staying home to hide this fact. - Grete, his sister, is sent out to get a doctor and locksmith - Gregor eventually opens the door, and his father pokes him with a walking stick until he is back in his room - Grete brings him in milk and bread , but it doesn’t appeal to Gregor. - Grete then brings him in leftovers , which Gregor eats. - Grete goes on to feed him twice a day , once in the morning and once after lunch. - Gregor is worried that his family will not be able to support themselves without him, but he then overhears that his father has some money saved from his previous business. - Gregor had saved up money to send Grete to a conservatory to study music. - Even though Grete brings in food daily, she cannot look at him - One day she sees him and is so terrified, that from that moment on Gregor hides himself under a sheet . - Mr. Samsa gets a job as a porter . - Grete and Mrs. Samsa decide to take all the furniture out of Gregor's room so he has more room to climb, ect.

- Gregor wants to save his chest , writing desk , and the picture of the girl in fur - Gregor does not want him to, so one day he comes out of hiding and covers the picture of the woman in fur , and when his mother sees him she faints. - Gregor rushes out of the room to look for medicine for his mother - Grete leaves him in the hallway, and shuts the door of his room - Mr. Samsa comes and throws apples at Gregor, one of which gets lodged in his back, until Gregor is back in his room. - When Mrs. Samsa regains consciousness, she begs Mr. Samsa to stop hurting Gregor - Every night, the door to Gregor's room is opened and his allowed to listen to them. - Grete gets a job as a clerk and his mother gets a job as a seamstress . - Grete begins to not care for him as much, only feeding him once a day - The family begins putting old and excess furniture in Gregor's room (he doesn't like this very much) - three lodgers come to live in the house, and they are given the best seats at the dinner table. (Gregor doesn't like this either) - The three lodgers request that Grete play the violin - They are not impressed by the playing, but Gregor loves it and goes out of the room, exposing himself to the lodgers. - the lodgers are disgusted and refuse to pay for the lodging and threaten the
