After meeting, our group decided on a company that offered a unique business process, one that
included a multitude of tasks, and could be reorganized to add overall value to the enterprise. The
company we choose is named Wildwater Ltd. To summarize, Wildwater Ltd. is a family owned
whitewater rafting company that began in 1971 on the Chattooga River. Wildwater has developed into a
premier outdoor adventure outpost.
It offers guided raft trips down two rivers in Costa Rica, the Ocoee,
Nantahala, Pigeon, Cheoh, as well as the beautiful Chattooga River. Wildwater has also expanded to
giving whitewater, ocean, and flat water kayak and canoe clinics, high and low ropes courses, leadership
development, lodging, overnight trips, Jeep tours, and catering.
After looking at the entire business organization, we decided upon the white water rafting portion
of the business enterprise. This is section of business unit, although already moderately efficient and
effective in its processes, still contains areas that could be improved in terms of quality, time, and costs.
Next, after deciding on the business process, we studied and examined established tasks that could be
effectively revamped, which would make for a more efficient process structure. Further, we studied and
examined the business unit by creating an overall outline of the tasks involved in the business, which
helped in finding areas of improvement. Briefly stated, some of the areas of improvement we found were:
the online registration of customers, email lists to promote customer return, a GPS mash up system to
again help with first aid, and an efficient trip speech to cut costs.
All of these improvements will be
described in great detail in the paper. After finding areas of improvement in the business process, we
created a second outline, which included the changes in the business process.
Finally, we conclude with
one of the key observations that IT throughout the reorganization process played a vital part in the
reduction of inefficiencies.
