Cory Johnson PSYC 1300 M 6:00 – 9:00 CH. 3 Homework 1.) Identify and describe (e.g., what is their function) each of the parts of a neuron. Each has a cell body, an axon, and dendrites . The cell body contains a nucleus, which controls all of the cell's activities, and several other structures that perform specific functions. The axon extends out from the cell body and transmits messages to other neurons . Dendrites also branch out from the cell body. They receive messages from the axons of other nerve cells. Neurons are surrounded by glial cells , which support, protect, and nourish them. 2.) Define/describe resting potential, action potential, and the all-or-none law. Resting potential is when a neuron is at rest and the inside of the neuron has a slight negative electrical charge compared to the outside. Action potential is when a neuron is stimulated, more positively charged particles flow into the cell, making the inside of the neuron positively charged compared to the outside of the cell. The sudden change in electrical charge is called action potential.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
