Part F: Methodology: Collecting Data
An action research provides ample time to tutors and other stakeholders in the
educational field to analyze their deployed classroom instructional methods. Through an action
research, teachers can easily understand key weaknesses amidst their students. Throughout the
action research, I desire to capitalize on key data collection techniques which plaid a key role in
enhancing the validity of the ongoing research. In order to collect comprehensive data from the
students, I intend to deploy a number of pre-approved data tools which include literature as data,
field notes as well as precise collaboration with other instructors.
The above pre-approved data tools would be selected on the basis that prior discussions
with my colleagues had narrowed down the tools as the most suitable in providing concrete data.
For instance, field notes would provide ample time for tutors to easily observe learners as they
try to solve key issues aligned with their literacy skills (Efron & Ravid, 2013). Literature as data
on the other hand would be crucial in providing precise data pertaining to previous students’
performance. With such data, it would be relatively to assess the progress or regression in
learners’ performance. Similarly, I also desire to incorporate the use of both pre and post
assessments as suggested by my colleagues. Based on the above insights, a number of steps
would be deployed so as to systematically collect all students’ data. One major step that was
deployed while collecting data focused on receiving a baseline for all students. With such data in
hand, it was quite easy for me to work on the statistics for at least three days with each data set
on a different work-sheet. The collected data happened to be both summative and formative
