Technical memo To: James Maxin From: Michael Murphy Date: March 24, 2008 Subject: Forces of momentum Experiment 3 In this memo about Lab 4 Experiment 3 we will be talking about the forces of momentum and energy. In this experiment we were looking to test the amount of energy dissipated in a collision with different size masses but same initial energy. To simulate this collision we set up a non friction track with two cars on it. One of the cars is initially at rest while the other one is pushed with an initial velocity. After the collision of the two we calculated the velocity of each car with the help of the camera and with our know masses we could find momentum and energy. Then we ran the same experiment with car that has a small mass. Experiment 3 In the first test we had the mass A be larger than the mass of B. Then the second test we had mass B be larger than mass A. For the last test we had the masses the same. As you can see on the table you can see that the test (test 1) when the mass of A was
