Computer service business concepts arealso introduced. This course will further prepare the student for the A+ CompTIA Certification test. Laboratoryexercises are included.OBJECTIVES:1.Identify the major desktop components, their interfaces, and their functions. Differentiate thecharacteristics of various client operating systems2.Demonstrate the installation and configuration of various operating systems using the most appropriatemethod.3.Investigate various operating system interfaces, types of management, upgrade options, andmaintenance.4.Identify the procedures for installing and configuring additional devices/software to the system and theprocess for troubleshooting the system if the addition goes awry.5.Explain the basic features of mobile operating systems.6.Identify basic troubleshooting procedures for common problems related to the CPU, memory, harddrives, power supplies, motherboards, video, I/O devices, network devices, sound, printers, andstorage devices.7.Identify procedures necessary to optimize the operating system and major operating systemsubsystems.8.Describe common security prevention methods and best practices in use today.REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS:1.The Official A+ Core 2 Student Guide textbook, either the e-text or the paperback text and the CompTIALabs access code all available in the Dale Mabry bookstore.2.Packet Tracer a download from Cisco’s NetAcad. Instructions can be found in Week #10 in the Modules.We will not use it till then.3.Functioning PC or laptop with Internet access. It is desirable to also have a microphone and webcam forZoom office meetings.
SPECIFIC COURSE INFO:1.No makeup exams or quizzes will be offered for any reason, meaning I will not reopen any exam or quizperiod.2.The final can be used to replace a missed or low score test and a quiz will be dropped at the end of thesemester.3.All tests will be taken online. Tests will consist of multiple choice and possibly some fill in the blankquestions.4.Attendance will be assessed by online participation which should be taken to mean showing workcompleted (labs or quizzes) or viewing a lecture in Canvas during the week. A week begins on Mondayand ends on Sunday.
