Nervous System Central Nervous System This IS IMPORTANT o (Processes, interprets, stores information; issues orders to muscles, glands, organs) Brain Spinal Cord (Bridge between brain and peripheral nerves) Peripheral Nervous System (Transmits information to and from the CNS) Somatic Nervous System (controls skeletal muscles Autonomic Nervous System (regulates glands, blood vessels, internal organs) [Automatic in nature – responds to the environment without our conscious input] o Sympathetic Nervous System (mobilizes body for action, energy output) [Fight or flight function] o Parasympathetic Nervous System (conserves energy, maintains quiet state) [Rest and digest functions] o These two allow us to balance and retain a homeostasis state We can organize the brain into specific cells, tracks, and fibers, which areas of the brain process different emotions. o They weigh about 3 lbs. full size about age 6 At birth it weighs about 1 lb. o
