Psychology – Class Notes – 10/12/07 Sensation and Perception II Wednesday is the review session Friday is the exam This is exam is going to be more difficult (a lot of information) Inverted Vision o Image is passed along to the visual cortex o Pathway of vision is plastic ; the brain is able to adjust to visual changes Synesthesis Synesthesia: Color hearing/seeing sound o Bi-sensory perception (seeing sounds, hearing colors, tasting smells) o Synesthesia can be induced by psychedelic drugs, strokes, after having temporary blindness/deafness. o Tasting shapes o Hypothesis: Anatomical in nature – scientists feel that it is likely that what happens early in brain development – dendrites – when its dense – degree of dendridic arbarization – sprouting of dendrites happen very quickly – branches that aren’t used will be pruned – IDEA IS: those who have this is that during this critical period of development – dendridic arbarization happens very quickly and then the dendrites are not pruned back (failure to
