Psychology – Class Notes – 9/19/07 Characteristics of Ambivalent Attachment: As Children: As Adults: May be ware of strangers Reluctant to become close to others Become greatly distressed when the parent leaves Worry that their partner does not love them Do not appear to be comforted by the return of the parent. Become very distraught Why is it important that we know when children have these problems (anxious ambivalent disorder) o More likely as older children and adults to have a number of different psychopathology (means not normal, not good – abnormal mental behavior) Example of psychopathologies O.D.D Post traumatic stress disorder Conduct Disorder (C.D) Light fires, cruel to animals o More likely to have significant psychological disorders if child is anxious ambivalent Anxious Ambivalent – Is a risk factor Not guaranteed that the individual will have problems later. Risk factor
