Putting it Together: Cellular Structures: Biological MoleculesUnderstanding intermolecular forces of attraction has helped show me the importance ofshape in biology. Intermolecular forces of attraction determine the strength of the bondbetween molecules which result in the shape it may hold. Shape ultimately defines the functionwhich something holds and how it performs based on that.Water has so many unique properties and can exist as a solid, gas, or liquid. This is somethingI’ve always known, but knowing how important the shape of the molecules and how theyinteract with other is in making up this substance has been really interesting to learn about.In this unit I expanded my knowledge and understanding on the four macronutrientslipids,proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acid. For starters, I had no idea how nucleic acidcontributed as a macronutrient. Macronutrients play an important role in maintaining bodyfunctions by repairing tissue and providing energy to fuel our bodies.
