The first settlement- New England. -Montezuma II the Aztec Emperor (BB note): -Montezuma II (c. 1466-1520) the Emperor of the Aztec Empire (1503-1520). -Montezuma’s Aztec Empire spread to present-day Honduras and Nicaragua. The Aztecs and the neighboring empires, however, resented the emperor's frequent demands for tribute and victims for religious sacrifice.
-When Spanish Conquistador Hernán Cortés arrived in 1519, Montezuma was held by the Spaniards as captive in his own palace. -In 1520, the Aztecs turned against their own emperor for not resisting the Conquistadors lead by Cortes, and he was killed soon after. The Aztec Empire came to an end. - 1521: Cortes the conqueror of Aztecs and Mexico -Hernando Cortes (1485- 1547) – Spanish Conquistador and explorer who defeated the Aztec Empire and claimed Mexico and Peru for the Spanish crown. -Giovanni da Verrazano (1485-1528): -Lyons, France -killed in the Caribbean by nave of Guadaloupe in 1528 -Verrazzano’s Voyage: 1524 -18 th century: limited to individuality. Drive, greed, and lust (3 deadly sins) -Discovered new York harbor -“ We found not far from this people another whose mode of life we judged to be similar. The whole shore is covered with fine sand, about fifteen feet thick, rising in the form of little hills about fifty paces broad.” Greed -“It is plentifully supplied with lakes and ponds of running water, and being in the latitude of 34 , the air is salubrious, pure and temperate, and free from the extremes of both heat and cold.”
